2019 has been proclaimed as the year of self-care. One of the aspects of self-care that is trending fast and furiously at the moment is a MOMCATION.
This past weekend saw me embark on my first ever, momcation. We are only 4 months into 2019 and I am already feeling burnt out, run down and pretty much pooped. So, a last minute decision saw me pack my bags and go on a retreat and I didn’t even have to leave the city.
Moms often sacrifice their basic needs for many reasons but two reasons that rank highly are money and time. The bottom line however is that moms need a timeout without the kids in tow. A momcation doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive or in another country. It just means time for yourself away from the daily grind, while accommodating your schedule and budget.
I’m a lover of hidden gems so when I came across Nt’ Shonalanga Valley Resort, I had immediately found my solution. I wanted a place close to home, a place that wouldn’t break the bank and a place where I could find solitude. I wanted to disconnect from the everyday craziness of city life and I wanted a spa day. Sounds like a tall order to ask for, but I found it all at Nt’ Shonalanga.
I arrived to the sound of running water against the backdrop of fiery autumn colors. After a quick and effortless check in, I made my way to my accommodation for the weekend. The quaint huts are adorable and spacious despite the impression from the outside. All huts are 4 sleepers, which makes Nt’Shonalanga more than just a momcation retreat. It’s even perfect for families or a great destination for a girls weekend away.
Nt’ Shonalanga is an intimate, family-run resort nestled in the Schurveberg Mountains on the banks of the tranquil Hennops River. Conveniently located just a 45-minute drive from the OR Tambo International Airport and a 20-minute drive from Lanseria Airport, it offers guests an ideal escape in the scenic African countryside. Nt’ Shonalanga provides a complete break from the stresses of daily life and a range of restorative wellness packages designed to elevate the soul and strengthen the inner being.
I spent my time sleeping, taking leisurely walks around the resort, sitting under the trees reading magazines and reflecting on my life. Limited reception forced a much needed digital detox on me. I honestly didn’t realise how exhausted I actually was and my retreat opened my eyes to the fact that I really need to slow done more often.
Thanks to my stubborn body clock I was up at the crack of dawn on the Saturday. I made myself a cuppa coffee and went for a stroll while I watched the sunrise instead of catching up on emails or playing on social media like I normally do. It was refreshing and set the tone for the day ahead at the Spa. Nt’Shonalanga Valley Resort is home to Suntaluna Spa. After a scrumptious breakfast I made my way down to the spa. Words alone can’t explain the pure bliss of 3 amazing treatments and hours spent at Suntaluna Spa. I love the intimacy and exclusivity of the spa at the resort. Hours of pampering helped me unwind and relax. I’ve been to the spa before and in fact spent my birthday there last year, so I definitely recommend it.
An afternoon nap followed by a delicious 3 course dinner was a beautiful way to end a perfect day for this hard working mom.
After a peaceful nights sleep, I woke content, rested and ready for an early morning hike with Hanita, CEO and Owner of Nt’ Shonalanga Valley Resort. Our hike presented some amazing views as we watched the sunrise.
If you need a time out from life, then I highly recommend a getaway to the gorgeous Nt’ Shonalanga Valley Resort.
