Tumi Morake is an award-winning South African stand-up comedian, television host and actress. She also wears the hats of TV producer and writer; wife and mother of 3. Morake cut her teeth as a writer on SABC’s flagship sitcoms and broke into television acting through those channels. She is dubbed as one of South Africa’s queens of comedy, headlining on local and international stages. Morake has dabbled in radio and remains one of South Africa’s most sought-after acts. She also sits on the board of directors at Summat Training Institute and St. Aquinas College.
And Then Mama Said …
Tumi Morake modelled her public persona on her mother – a charming and contentious woman who used her big, bold voice to say what others were afraid to utter. It’s the personality that Tumi took on stage in the mostly male space of stand-up comedy, and the one that gave her the courage to comment about apartheid on air.
Tumi Morake is proud to announce the release of her much awaited debut book, And Then Mama Said, which will be on the shelves from the first week of October. The book is the voice of Tumi in private, as well as a behind-the-scenes perspective of a pioneering South African star who has been deeply loved and viciously hated by her audiences.
Tumi’s book is as raw and real as it gets as she gets frank about her story. She carries the voice of her mother, and with it the indispensable life lessons that made her who she is today.
The book is a must-read for fans of Tumi Morake; a look behind the scenes of the entertainment industry and its scandals; an inspiring read of her rise from humble beginnings to fame and fortune and a sneak into issues of racism and cyberbullying.
And Then Mama Said is the real, unfiltered story of Tumi Morake. The book is now available for pre-sale on various online platforms.
Ever since its inception in 1988, the Reach for a Dream Foundation has been doing amazing work by providing hope to children fighting life-threatening illnesses, by fulfilling their dreams.
Children have the innate ability to live in colour so to speak and to live each day to the very fullest. Encouraging them to dream their biggest dreams inspires a sense of strength, hope and courage.
Reach for a Dream touches the lives of over 45 000 children and their families a year. The 2018 campaign is well underway and the Reach for a Dream team is all set to impact lives like they have been doing for the past 3 decades, but they can’t do it without your generosity and support. 2018 will see this NPO celebrate 30 years of inspiring hope by making dreams come true, so you can expect this year’s Slipper Day campaign to be one for the books.
What can you do with R10?
Now take a moment to consider what you can do with R10. Well, pretty much nothing, but your R10 can make a difference to the the dreams of these life-threatened children come true. Jonathan Boynton-Lee summed it up pretty much when he said, “The only thing we can control is the amount of love you choose to give without expecting anything in return.”
Namritha, Melanie, Johathan and I grabbed the opportunity to take a photo with 18-year-old Kamo. This young man beat the odds after spending more than 2.5 years in a coma due to a brain tumour. Kamo now wishes to inspire hope by sharing his story.
I urge you to get involved and support this amazing initiative and the outstanding work that Reach for a Dream does. They are indeed “the closest thing to angels”.
I recently attended the launch of the Pretoria branch of The Bra Guru which is currently in its 4th year running. Their flagship store is located in Hyde Park and due to the high demand, Managing Director Taryn Palacios has opened a second store in Pretoria.
One of my huge issues as a result of my weight loss is most definitely my breasts. Our breasts are made up of primarily fatty tissue and when we lose weight, your body burns excess fat for energy. This is turn causes the stretched skin to sag over many areas of your body, including your breasts. One of the best tried and true methods to tighten any area of the body is to improve muscle tone. Your chest is controlled by the pectoral muscles. Exercises that target this group should pull in tissue and help firm up your breasts, If however that doesn’t work for you or going the more invasive and permanent way of a “boob job” isn’t for you, keep in mind that it all starts with owning one good bra in your perfect fit.
Our breasts go through several changes in our lifetimes as it is a vital part of our reproduction. First before birth, again at puberty, and later during the child-bearing years. Changes also happen to the breasts during the menstrual cycle and when a woman reaches menopause.
Research has shown that more than 80% of women wear the incorrect bra size so it is important to get properly measured by a professional. While there are many stores that offer a bra fitting service, The Bra Guruhappens to be a bra fitting specialist that educates you whilst helping you determine your perfect fit. Finding the perfect bra involves more than just finding the correct size. It involves finding a style that is best suited for the shape of your breast. Breasts are unique, so one style unfortunately does not fit all. A proper-fitting bra tends to ensure that clothes fit better, posture improves, and in the event of back and shoulder pain, this is diminished. The goal is to not only achieve better lift and separation, but also to gain more confidence while being comfortable. As we all already know, there is nothing more uncomfortable than a poorly fitting bra.
The Bra Guru stocks imported bras that have been designed by an Aeronautical Engineer which is of special interest to me seeing as I am an Aircraft Engineer. It really puts things into perspective, as I can understand the in-depth testing involved in each bra design.
How Should Your Perfect Bra Fit?
Did you know?
A good bra should last you a year
You don’t need an underwire bra for good support
The straps serve the purpose of just holding the material of the bra up
There are no-slip devices to keep your straps in place
You shouldn’t use softener when washing your bras
The back strap gives the most support
The cup gives our breasts shape
A medium to high impact sports bra is essential when participating in physical activities
Your bra size can fluctuate between brands
You can protect your bras by using lingerie wash bags or by hand washing
You could be wearing the wrong size bra
Why Shop at The Bra Guru?
Well, The Bra Guru has something to cater for your every need and occasion. Their range includes bras up to a size K and they stock the following styles:-
While at the launch I used the opportunity to get myself measured by the gorgeous Tamryn herself. My fitting was professionally conducted in a comfortable and relaxed environment. I’m extremely glad that I got measured, else I would have probably continued walking around in bras that are too big for me. The fitting was also extremely informative and I learnt so much about bras in general.
I’m totally in love with this lacy number which is super sexy and I must say that the fabric felt exquisite.
Their sports bra is another favourite of mine and the design is amazing. The microfiber lining is a definite win for me. Having had the opportunity to examine each of the bras in the range, I must tell you that the designs and quality are impressive. The launch has made me realise that I need to start investing in good quality bras.
I highly recommend that you give The Bra Guru a call and schedule a no obligation fitting to determine your perfect fit. Who knows, maybe you will find the perfect bra at the same time.
