Looking for the best sushi in town then you should be making your way to Wasabi Sushi & Grill at Mall of Africa. Voted Best Sushi in Jozi |Wasabi Sushi & Grill is in a class of its’ own and delivers on the goods time and time again.

Wasabi Sushi & Grill is where Japan meets South Africa. Better known for their sushi, the restaurant also serves a variety of other dishes. They have an extensive fusion, oriental menu that specialises in authentic Japanese, Thai and Cantonese cuisine.

Despite an extensive menu, we as regulars have our favourite go to dishes. The “Springbok Carpaccio” served with rocket, grated parmesan and white chocolate, with a balsamic reduction is the perfect starter.

The Spinach and Cheese Dim Sum is a definite hit with my sons and something we order regularly.

The Poke Fire is outstandingly delicious and can be served as an appetizer or as a main. You can expect sliced tuna, olive oil, lemon juice, red onion, sesame seeds and cayenne pepper. The dish packs a punch with explosions of flavour in every mouthful.

The Peking Duck is another dish worth trying. While it is possibly the best Peking Duck I’ve ever tasted, it costs a pretty penny. Consider it as a meal for a special occasion should it not meet your budget.

Best Sushi in Joburg 2019

Wasabi won the award for Best Sushi in Joburg 2019 by the Best of Joburg Reader’s Choice Awards. I have in fact been saying this since I started frequenting the place since its opening. The sushi is unique and truly outstanding. The South Africa twist infused in the sushi is an absolute win. For a taste of the best pf both ask for the Tiger VS Dragon and thank me later.

All the drama

Wasabi Sushi & Grill is all about the drama. Dramatic oversized chandeliers, menu explanations from tablets that will activate your taste-buds ensures dining with them is a complete experience. Bursts of flames as steaks are flambéed, gin trolleys that roll by and an irresistible cake table.

Another restaurant we love visiting at the Mall of Africa is Ponta. Click HERE to find out why.

Keeping it the Family

Wasabi’s sister company, Fire Room is located in Monte Casino and Bedfordview. Wasabi Sushi & Grill remains my favourite of the two, despite the more upmarket decor and layout at Fire Room,

I highly recommend you visit this high end restaurant situated in the heart of Waterfall City, Midrand. If you have already visited Wasabi Sushi and Grill, let me know what your experience has been by leaving a comment.
